  So quite a while ago my brother told me his neighbor had an old bike stuffed in the back of a barn. I managed to sneak a peak at it at one point, but wasn't sure I wanted to pick it up. It festered in the back of my mind for a whole year. They were in and out of town, our paths just never seemed to be able to cross, until... FINALLY... I was able to go back and make a deal! Hauled it home on the hitch carrier, and after a few basic checks, gave it the old boot. What do you think? Not bad for a barn find!?   I've wanted to try this for a while now. How do you think it turned out?!? I think it turned out fanatastic! Love it. Going to be using this process again to make more of these! It was actually pretty easy with some basic tools. Still need to polish it up and make it shine, but you get the idea! What other parts should I custom form out of aluminum?   It's FINALLY happening. The bike is FINALLY being put together for the last time! My son took it for his "first ride"- as a strider bike. Seems like it's going to fit him well!   This dirtbike is finally taking shape! Only had one minor "oops" on it this time... easily fixed with a few minutes and a couple of bolts. This "restoration" has taken too long but I'm having so much fun! Excited to see my son take it for a ride this spring! I gave up on the plan to re-use the original top end. I found a complete top end kit on Amazon. And when I say complete, I mean it! It had the cylinder, piston, head, valves, cam, all the gaskets, and everything else! I unbox it here!   So... I made a mistake. Maybe I'm just too liberal with the blowtorch. I had some stuck bolts, and figured I'd use the torch to heat them up to break them loose... But the engine was sitting in a plastic oil pan full of carb cleaner and vapors. It INSTANTLY lit on fire, and it was BIG!!! Thankfully got out of it with no burns and no real damage to the shop, other than some oil stains on the floor and a ruined blanket. And, a melted oil pan... But hey, we're slowly getting somewhere!   Blast from the past- dug this one out of the archives! I apologize in advance for the filming and quality... But its funny. I've got a 1955 John Deere 60 tractor. It came with the house when I bought it, and the tractor hadn't run in a few years. It has an ANCIENT Farmhand front end loader on it. I had no clue what I was doing, but I got it started, and it seemed to run decent. Wanted to move it somewhere easier to work on so I tried lifting the bucket up, and it was working... until...   So maybe not your typical 5-Minute craft, but check this out! The engine side covers on the Z50 build had some issues. Normally, I would have just left well enough alone, but...   So it's been a very fun, very full summer. And I've made good progress on the Z50 build... But. Summers over. Project's not done. And, I'm over budget. Well great. Good news is that I'm still not too deep into this bike. Bad news is, school is back in, and I'm a full time shop teacher. The first week of teaching is always a nightmare- there is no tired like first week teacher tired. I've got a few other vids in the works, but for this week, lets sit down and have a chat while I clean the workbench! I am a huge fan of rattle can paint jobs, but they can be a little limiting when it comes to custom colors. Not anymore!!! I found a place fairly close to me that can mix any paint code up and stuff it into a spray can! Check them out here: Superior Paint Supply http://www.superiorpaintsupply.com/ Very reasonable- this can cost about $24 with tax, but price varies depending on what all goes into the can. I opted for a single stage because I never have had good luck with a top coat not peeling. What color? Porsche Mamba Green! Turned out FANTASTIC, love it! Paint code for this green is M6S. Painting is fairly straightforward- Sand all the old crap paint off, smooth it out, prime it, wet sand the primer, and then do your top coat. I ended up having to do 2 layers of primer, because the Krylon stuff I used was very runny. Lightly sanded the runs out after it had dried, gave it another light coat of primer, then on to the wet sanding. PATIENCE is key when working with ...

  Kinda tempted to turn this into an electric motorcycle... but... I think we'll stick with the good ole' internal combustion engine for now! SUPER EXCITED about this vid- it FINALLY looks like a minibike! I got the hubs repaired and mounted to the rims, got the suspension bolted to the frame, and the wheels bolted to the suspension.
